Hi everyone. I know I haven't done this in a while so lets make an attempt to catch up. It has been extremely busy for me since the end of July. While currently working at my job I am using my days off to make runs up to Missouri. The first of many loads is going to be 3 of my horse children. It will be a long drive but I have done it before and as a matter of fact, very recently. Two of my mares are in foal so I really need to get them moved so they can get acclimated to the change in weather and have a chance to grow their winter coats. I also do not want them undertaking such a long trip when they are to far along in their pregnancy, so its important to me that they get settled while they are still under 6 months along. At this point they are barely under 6 months along. Its so dry down here and there is almost no hay to be found and when there is, its sky high. There is no pasture because its all burned up from the heat, lack of rain and the sun. The horses will get to be back out on pasture when they return to Missouri. I am returning back to the farm so the horses won't have to get use to another "new" place. Oh and for those of you who read this and have raised an eyebrow about me moving back up to the farm....I guess you are pretty much feeling like total asses now for what you all said and thought about me leaving there a year ago.....just goes to show you shouldn't believe everything you hear.
I recently ran across some reading material that I found very interesting. Its author was someone who has written things before on many subjects that they feel they are expert on. I found it interesting that as much as they preach about others and the way they do things (in the eyes of the author these things are WRONG that others do) I find that the author has now joined the very people that were criticised. Some of the subjects that have come up in the past are things like breeding or as the author called it "backyard breeding" and the irresponsible behavior of the people regarding care of their animals. Funny thing is I seem to have heard or read somewhere that the author has bred for a foal and now that its a viable pregnancy has now gotten rid of or free leased the mare because now the author doesn't want the foal. WOW! HYPOCRITE MUCH?
Lets just for grins talk about another subject. The subject is Two Wrongs DO NOT Make A RIGHT! I don't care how you slice this it is the same answer ALWAYS! Lets use an example: An irresponsible individual dumps an animal and it shows up on your place......
DO YOU:
A: catch the domestic animal and go re-dump it (which by the way makes you no better than the people who dumped it in the first place)
or
B: contact a shelter and turn the animal in so that it gets fed, cared for, has shelter and has a fighting chance to get a suitable home.
If you are a person that holds everyone else to such high standards I would think that you would take the few minutes out of your schedule (don't cop out by saying I don't have time) and you would take the animal to the shelter. Apparently the author doesn't hold themselves to as high a standard as others are expected to be held at. SO the CORRECT ANSWER IS "B". Well it turns out that the very person that tells others how to take care of their animals has chosen "A". Which now gets me to my point of TWO WRONGS DO NOT MAKE A RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do not justify your actions (wrong actions) by saying "I wasn't the one that originally did the deed". It doesn't matter. You still did not do the RIGHT THING! Either practice what you preach or shut the hell up!
As the drought continues down here in South Texas, we (the community) continue to buy deer protein and feed the deer in an effort to keep them from starving. There are a lot of twins this year. I, myself, have kept alfalfa hay out for them and have also been putting feed out for them. The doe's are looking better, especially the ones with twins. The fawns are looking better as well. I have gotten to see a couple spikes spar over the food. It looks like a girl slapping fight. Its really kinds comical. The lakes and rivers are drying up around here. One of the lakes is down about 50 or more feet. So much for boating! I can't wait to get to cooler climate.
I can't wait to get everyone back into pasture. My 16 month old filly won't go to pasture though, I don't want her getting nicked up or anything because she will be going to show. She will have a run out off a stall and will get turned out for exercise. Her best buddy is my mini which will, I'm sure, be right by the filly's side always. They are like two very different sized peas in a pod.
Well I think its about time to go take care of my responsibilities and get ready for 4 a.m. to roll around. Take care everyone and if you are in a not so hot part of U.S. then enjoy the cool.
